It appears that poker tournaments including 2-7 Single Draw can only be found at PokerStars, although the game can be played on other sites.
Poker Tournaments
Why this game is only included in poker tournaments at Superstars is a mystery, as it is played on sites all over the place. Most poker tournaments tend to include all the favourite games, such as Texas Hold’Em and a variety of others, so maybe it is just a case of not enough people having hooked into the 2-7 Single Draw game.
As it stands, PokerStars host a whole array of regular poker tournaments, from sit and go, daily and weekly poker tournaments tthrough some major tournaments like the Sunday Million, Major and Warm Ups, Saturday Line-ups and Daily Bigs to Annual Series poker tournaments like the WCOOP and the SCOOP.
In other words, PokerStars are one of the major sites for poker tournaments, so finding the 2-7 Single Draw here is not really too much of a surprise.
In any case, the 2-7 Single Draw poker game is one of the draw poker games where the best and lowest hand takes the win. Every player is dealt a set of five cards to begin with and is then able to either keep or discard and replace cards during successive draw rounds.
Poker Tournament or Simple Game, the Basics of 2-7 Single Draw
Before starting to play a game of 2-7 Single Draw, players should note that straights, pairs and flushes will all count against a hand and should therefore be avoided as much as humanly possible.
Aces are always counted as highs in 2-7 Single Draw, whether part of a game of during a poker tournament. This of course means that the Ace, two and on to five is not counted as a straight, while Jack through to Ace is.
The best 2-7 Single Draw hand a player could ask for is an unsuited combination of the two, three, four five and seven cards. This combination is generally known among players as the wheel or the nut. Low hands are typically counted down from the highest one of the cards.
Consequently, a combination of cards starting with the nine as the highest card and having a three as the lowest one, with the middle cards being seven, six and four, for instance, would beat a set of a ten followed by the same middle cards and ending in a two, for instance.
Antes and blinds in this game are used to stimulate the game and both are posted before hands are dealt, with the ante usually being a smaller amount. The blinds are assigned to the players seated to the left hand side of the button (the dealer).
When a player first buys into a 2-7 Single Draw game, they can choose to either wait until the big blind reaches the position they are seated in, or post both a blind bet equal to the big blind and the ante immediately to start playing straight away.
As soon as all blinds have been posted, five cards are given to each player, with all cards being face down. Players than have the option to call, raise or of course fold during the first betting round. If no-one has raised bets, the big blind player has the option to check.
2-7 NL Tournament Win – Back to Back
Following this, all active players get the opportunity to discard any cards the wish and replace them with new cards. To keep all cards, players select to stand pat.
There is a possibility of cards running out during this type of game. In the event that this should happen, all discarded cards are re-shuffled and are put back into the game.
After the draw, another betting round is completed. Finally, hands of remaining players are checked and the lowest hand receives the pot.
